"Paywall: The Business of Scholarship" was released September 05, 2018.  The publisher Elsevier (RELX) which has a 2017 revenue of $3.13 Billion USD declined 13% on the NASDAQ from September 05-September 19, 2018.

Over the last two years, I’ve been supported in significant ways by Open Society Foundations, The Royal Society, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Wellcome Trust, the Arcadia Foundation and, even, the United Nations.  I’ve seen what is involved to activate philanthropic interest and enthusiasm.  I enjoy the process of seeking support and buy-in of important ideas through grants and philanthropy. I also like the sense of accomplishment when plans made on paper take real world shape and impact.
In 2019, I worked with the European Commission and the European Research Council’s cOAlition S to support and speak toward a global initiative to make full and immediate open access to research publications a reality.  Over the last year, I’ve attended and built relationships with Erasmus University in Rotterdam, Netherlands; the University of Iceland; Université Côte d'Azur in Nice, France; The British Library in London, England; Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, Germany; the Institute for Globally Distributed Open Research and Education (IGDORE) in Indonesia; National Cheng Kung University in Tainan, Taiwan; and nearly every ivy league institution in the U.S.
